Help Arlo get back on his paws

Arlo's world changed when his owner made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him before moving overseas. While settling into RSPCA ACT's care, our veterinary team discovered that this gentle Golden Retriever was living with significant challenges to his hip joints. After further assessment and x-rays, it was confirmed that Arlo now needs orthopaedic surgery.

Golden Retrievers are one of several breeds that can be predisposed to hip problems, and Arlo's excess weight has placed even more strain on his joints. Our veterinary team will perform a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), a procedure that removes the damaged part of his hip joint and gives him the best opportunity to regain comfortable movement.

Thankfully, Arlo isn't facing this journey alone. He is currently recovering in the care of one of our dedicated foster carers, where he has a quiet, comfortable place to rest before and after surgery. Once his operation is complete, he'll need time to heal, gradually rebuild his strength and continue his road to recovery.
